Joe Houston

Joe Houston, the "Wild Man of the Tenor Sax", is a texas-based blues / rock & roll saxophone player, with a savage, honking style. On the stage, Houston let everything go, a dynamo of energy often playing on his knees or on his back.

Joe Houston was born in Austin, Texas in 1926 (or perhaps 1924), studied trumpet in school and switched to saxophone at age 16. He played with the jump blues bands of Amos Milburn and Joe Turner in the late 1940s, cut his first single with Freedom records in 1949, and recorded for many labels in the 1950s and 1960s. His only national R&B hits were "Worry, Worry, Worry" and "Hard Time Baby", both released in 1952, but other great recordings include "All Nite Long", "Blow, Joe, Blow" and "Joe's Gone" - all amazing examples of single-minded sax blasting.

When Rock & Roll became popular, Houston quickly adapted. Joe Houston and his Rockets issued a string of albums in the late 1950s and early 1960s with names like "Rock and Roll", "Doin' the Twist", "Twisting In Orbit" and "Sure Rockin'"

Joe Houston continues to tour and perform for his loyal Texas fans.
